A Little Bit About Me...
I'm Justin. I'm from the Netherlands. Currently 19 years old (Turning 20 in fewer than two months). Let's see here. I will hopefully soon be in the process of starting the journey towards my eventual goal of emigrating to the US of A (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGQaH3-LK54) where I will then move in with my best mate.

I am a huge lover of science fiction, both in television and written media. I am also a giant, giant armchair historian specializing in the period between approximately 1870, and the 1970's. My secondary specialty would be the period between the early 1770's and 1820-ish (And mainly the British military aspect of it). If I could (afford it), I would most definitely study history, but that is not currently an option for me.

Now, what else. I love sports. Soccer, handball, hockey (field, not ice), rugby, cricket, American Football, Aussie rules football, baseball, the Formula One, the Winter Olympics (For some reason I don't find as much enjoyment in the summer olympics than I do in the winter editions). I play a couple of them at times. For example, last thursday (The 16th of September, 2016) I played a great game of baseball before enjoying the Netherlands-Spain game in the Euros.

I also do a little gaming now and then. Not really specific to any single genre. It's all dependent on how I feel at that time. Sometimes I'm in the mood for some strategic thinking, while the next day I may just want to mindlessly shoot drones or summat. That said, I am in a MilSim unit playing Arma 3 several times a week.

Besides that, I have no idea what else is really to be said here. If anyone wants to know more they can send me a message any time. Be it a telegramme, a PM on the forums, Facebook, Steam, I will answer it as soon as I have a moment to do so. (Contact information can be found in the addendum).

Favorite Genres:
Historical military fiction, modern military fiction, sci-fi, space opera

Favorite Writers: Bernard Cornwell, Patrick O'Brien, Tom Clancy, Robert Heinlein, many more

Nationality: Dutch

Addendum: Anyone who wishes to add me on Facebook can follow me here: https://www.facebook.com/justin.devos.37 . Once I start on the road, I will be keeping interested people informed through that.

Furthermore, anyone that would like to play games with me, can and should feel free to add me on Steam if they so desire. My profile can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/skullguy151196/

When Did You First Join Astyria? I was among the first group of nations to be approached about joining up with Astyria when the region first launched, so I've had involvement off and on for quite awhile now. As a lot of people know, I've dealt with some health issues that have knocked me low over the last couple of years, but I've come to consider this region my home region in NationStates, and am never too awful far away from it when writing.

A Little Bit About Me... I've been writing for years and years, and have been creating worlds almost as long. I actually created a nation on an old Notepad document in the Ye Olden Days, like 1996-1997ish for fun, which then turned into a school project. The name 'Lexmark' that adorns the account I RP with in Astyria is a throwback to that very first nation, long before NationStates was even a concept. Outside of writing, I love traveling when possible, and enjoy photography quite a lot. When financially able to, I actually take trips around different locations in my home state to take photographs. Some of them are actually good!

Favorite Genres: Drama, Historical Epic, Horror, Suspense/Thriller

Favorite Writers: Albert Camus, John Keats, Thomas Keneally

If you're reading this, you're either a member of the one of the greatest regions in NationStates, or you're considering making this region your home. Or, perhaps, you're a lurker that just likes to keep tabs on the goings-on. Either way, welcome to the off-site forums for the great region of Astyria! Astyria is a region comprised of nations young and old, and boasts one of the most diverse and eclectic roleplaying communities in NationStates. If you find yourself here, you are at least partially interested in who we are; hence, a thread designed for members of the region to introduce themselves both to their fellow region-mates, and to those possibly considering applying to become members themselves. Consider this your first port-of-call when meeting the wonderful writers who breathe life into our region.

To participate here, it's quite simple: just post a bit about who you are — the nation(s) that you manage in Astyria, how long you have been a part of the region and/or the larger NationStates community, and anything else that think others would find interesting. Introduce yourself to your region-mates, new and old!

Special Thanks to... The Nations That Introduced Themselves! Aswick, Ollie, Aquitayne and Woody

BEFORE POSTING ANYWHERE, PLEASE FILL OUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE FOUND BELOW AND POST IT IN THIS BOARD. THE APPLICATION'S TOPIC SHOULD READ: [NATION NAME]: APPLICATION

Thanks for your interest in the region. Filling out this questionnaire ahead of time will greatly speed up the process for membership. Please give as full an answer to each question as possible. If any one of them seems redundant to you, or you have elaborated on the matter in a previous answered question, please redirect us to that answer.

1. First, if you could tell us more about yourself to help in the selection process -
Are you new to NS or a vet player, also, are you returning to NS with another account?

2. Have you ever applied to Astyria before, and if so, when? What account name were you applying with at the time?

3. Do you have multiple accounts (puppets) and what are they?
Which one is your primary account that you use most often?

4. Is there any drama, OOC conflict or issues that occurred in a previous region that involved you? Please be specific. If you were in another RP region, why did you leave?

6a. What tech do you normally RP in? i.e. MT, PMT, FT (please narrow down to a specific century or millenia), Fantech (please be specific about what makes your RP fantasy), PT (please narrow down to a specific century)

6b. Are you willing to RP in other techs?

7. What are the goals you would like to accomplish in Astyria and what do you hope to get out of your experience here from us, the current members?

8. Are there any other helpful things you would like to share about yourself, NS related or not?

Please provide a link to your NationStates account here:

If you are unwilling or unable to answer these questions, the process won't go very well, more than likely. Thank you in advance.
Also, be aware, upon temporary acceptance, most new members have a stay in our Probation region before admittance to the Main region. This generally lasts about a month, but it could take more or less time.

Lastly, be aware that our region RPs in MT - Modern Technology level. Not that many of our members don't dabble in other tech levels and time periods, but when we talk about affairs and canon building, most often it is in MT.

Thanks again for your patience with our process.

Membership Guidelines / CTE's and Low Activity
« Last post by Aquitayne on September 09, 2016, 07:37:46 PM »
Activity may get low, RL may get in the way and disrupt NS plans, whether its work, school or family that calls your attention away, I guarantee you 100% that IT WILL HAPPEN! No one expects you to be on and engaged 24/7, if they do, that's just ridiculous. They need a reality check. So, no need to feel guilty, people. RL always takes precedence. Always.

Here's some tips so you can pick up where you left off in Astyria, especially if you think you might CTE:
1. Keep in touch with someone on NS; preferably someone here, if you plan to come back to our region. Facebook, email, telegram, whatever. Stay in touch, if you can. Let us know what's going on. Because, you know, we care and stuff.

2. Try to sign in every month. It takes minutes. Should you CTE, don't worry. Really, there is no need for panic.
Then you might say, 'Oh crap, I want to reactivate.' Do so. Then STAY in the feeder region. DO NOT go to another RP region, gameplay region, etc. We will assume you're done with us and if you want to come back after that, you will have to re-apply all over again and explain everything. However, if you contact the WAD from the feeder region upon respawn, more than likely, barring any odd situation, you should be able to get the password for the main region to come back. It will depend on the situation and length of absence.

3. If you CTE in probation, without ever having made it to the main region, that's too bad. Do over. Re-apply. Another full stay in probation, if accepted. In rare instances, we may make an exception, but don't count on it.

Membership Guidelines / How to Move from Probation to Main
« Last post by Aquitayne on September 09, 2016, 07:36:31 PM »
Basically, what you need to do is this:

Keep getting involved in regional RPs that are open to you. Like the Stories From Astyria thread is always open to willing participants. You do need to apply first: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=297977

Several members often have diplomatic or crisis threads. Or...you could plan a diplomatic thread of your own out with someone in Astyria or Probation.

There is the annual Alpen View Brew Festival thread that happens in the fall. That's always open to everyone, within certain rules. Read up on that and apply here: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=211832

Keep doing your thing in the diplomacy threads, whether that's sports, diplomacy/character RP, II/war, GE&T or even Portal to the Multiverse. Just get involved. We don't count the General forums as RP, except for P2TM, so we'd recommend staying away from General and F7 unless you have unlimited time and can get both solid RPing and yukyuking/debating in.

Keep checking out both RMBs in the main and probation regions. You may not be able to post in main, but you might catch something we forgot to post over in probation.

IRC. Jump on there when you can to our regional channel, link in the probation WFE. Talk to us, ask questions.

All these things are optional, but they will get you 'points', so to speak, towards entry to the main region and have us members knowing that you want to be an involved, active, equal part of Astyria.

Additionally, if you don't hear about your status after a month in probation, a gentle TG reminder to the WAD is acceptable. If you haven't gotten into the main within a month, don't lose hope. They may be taking time on voting you in, or are looking for a bit more visibility from you.
